Although the hydraulic loss in the vortex pump inlet pool is very small, if the flow pattern is not good, it will also have a great impact on the safe operation and efficiency of the pump. Because the vortex pump is designed under the assumption that the velocity distribution and pressure distribution of the water flow at the inlet of the impeller are uniform, it is required that most of the flow sections in the inlet pool, especially the sections near the inlet of the impeller, have uniform velocity distribution, and the vortex is small enough to be ignored or not cause water flow pulsation. However, due to the water absorption of the water pump suction pipe and the flow around when the water flows through the suction pipe, it is inevitable that local vortices will appear.
If the shape and size of the inlet pool itself are not designed properly, it will produce vortex or increase the intensity of vortex and destroy the inlet conditions of the pump; If the vortex enters the water pump as a vortex belt, it will cause the unbalanced load of the water pump blade channel and cause the vibration of the unit. When air enters the pump, the flow rate of the water pump is reduced and the efficiency is significantly reduced. In serious cases, the water pump cannot work. In terms of hydraulic conditions, the design requirements of inlet tank are mainly how to avoid and limit the generation and influence of vortex.
